Project ยท Yo Bro

Practising what school asks for

A practice app for pupils of about 9 to 14, on their own phone or tablet. Take a photo of the word list and practise it a few minutes a day. With reading, verbs, language rules, sums and maths alongside.

Yo Bro. Small steps. Big brains.

The goal

A pupil can practise on their own, a few minutes a day, what school asks of them: with no adult alongside, no account, and without anything about that child reaching us.

What's really going on at school

The list the pupil got this week, and the rules that are tested at school.

A few minutes every day

The Today card lines up what's due. A word comes back after 1 day, 3 days, a week, two weeks and five weeks, and starts over after a mistake.

Understanding why it's right

In maths the app first solves an example step by step. A hint gives the next step and not the answer, and after a mistake the pupil hears why it was wrong.

Safe, for everyone

No pupil accounts, no ads and no tracking. Maths and the reading course are completely free, and one switch puts everything in a typeface for dyslexia.

How it works

  1. Take a photo

The pupil photographs the list from school. Yo Bro reads it on the device itself.

  2. Check it

The pupil corrects what the camera misread, and the list is ready.

  3. Practise

A few minutes a day, in eight ways. A missed card comes back a few cards later.

What's inside

Language

Language

Word lists in 17 languages, 150 verbs in every tense taught at school, language rules, vocabulary, a reading course for those just learning to read, and hundreds of drawings with their word.

Sums and maths

Sums and maths

Plus, minus, times and divide, the tables up to 12, and six maths topics in thirty-three chapters. Every question is generated, so redoing a chapter brings new numbers.

Together

Together

A battle on the same Wi-Fi, for up to 32 players. Players are animals, never names. The device that starts the battle is the server, so nothing leaves the classroom.

In the classroom

One QR code

Type the list in once and print it. When the class scans the code the whole list comes along, with no accounts and no internet.

On paper

The app prints word lists, Friday's test, worksheets and lesson sheets with the answers.

Nothing to manage

No pupil accounts, no class lists and no school licence. Joining a battle is always free.

Yo Bro for schools

For every pupil

  • A typeface for children with dyslexia (OpenDyslexic), on screen and on paper
  • Words and stories are read aloud
  • The app itself comes in 17 languages
  • Light or dark, like the device

Privacy

  • No pupil accounts and no class lists
  • No chat, no ads, no tracking
  • Word lists and scores stay on the device
  • Savage Software receives no data about pupils

What it costs

Yo Bro is free to download, with three lists, three ways to practise, the whole reading course and all of the maths. Yo Bro Pro opens the rest, by the year or by the month.
